Overview of Okavango Delta
A scenic flight is a light-aircraft hop over the Okavango Delta, usually from Maun, with a pilot who knows the channels. You fly low enough to read the flood: papyrus, palm islands, hippo paths and, in season, elephant trails cutting across the grass.
Most flights last 45 to 60 minutes. The classic loop leaves Maun, crosses the buffalo fence and follows the permanent water toward Chief’s Island and the panhandle edge, then turns back. Longer charters continue toward Moremi or, from Kasane, along the Chobe. Windows are large, seats are few, and the aircraft is booked for your group.
It is the best single view of how the Delta works, and it is often the transfer as well: the same plane that shows you the channels can drop you at a bush strip for camp. Morning light is clearer; late afternoon throws longer shadows across the islands.
